False Hydrosalpinx

May 14, 2003

At a first laparoscopy, blue dilated caused dilation of the right tube, but there was no spill.  The fimbriae (fingers) of the right tube are not seen.  The tubes, ovaries and peritoneal (internal skin lining) are all appear healthy.

Jan 16, 2004

Due to the healthy appearance of the rest of the pelvis and to not seeing the end of the right tube, a second laparoscopy was performed.  When the right tube was lifted up, the stalk (pedicle) of a hydatid cyst of Morgagni was seen wrapped around the tube.  This unwrapped as the tube was held up.  Blue dye flowed easily after unwrapping the stalk.  The ridge  (stricture) is the area where the stalk had been wrapped.  This stalk (pedicle) is much longer than usual for hydatid cysts of Morgagni.  These type cysts are thought to be remnants present at birth and usually of no significance.
