POST-COITAL TEST (PCT)



This test has several names
including Post-Coital Test, PCT, Sims Huhner's Test, and mucus - sperm exam.
Although there is controversy about the utility of this test, it can give
information on when to do cultures, to treat with antibiotics, to treat with
Robitussin, to treat with estrogens, to use sperm antibody testing and to use
intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Scheduling:

Call when your period starts. |

Scheduled immediately before or on the day of
expected ovulation. |
 |
If your cycles are irregular, do
the test based on
mucus observation or ovulatory testing.
The test is used while the mucus is at peak or on the day of or day after a
positive ovulation test. |

Check at 6 to 18 hours after sexual intercourse. |
